The Great Diamond Island Sea Level Rise Partnership (GDI Partnership) is a volunteer-led community group helping Great Diamond Island prepare for the environmental changes affecting its future. By bringing together residents, community leaders, and regional partners, the GDI Partnership promotes collaboration, education, and informed stewardship of the island’s natural and community resources.
Great Diamond Island is increasingly vulnerable to rising seas, storm surge, coastal erosion, and more frequent flooding. In response, the GDI Partnership advances adaptive management—an approach that uses projected future conditions to guide today's decisions. This longer-term perspective helps islanders consider not only what solutions are appropriate today, but how long they will remain effective and when adaptation or retreat may become the better choice. Collaboration with neighboring islands, scientists, state agencies, and other regional partners expands access to expertise, resources, and opportunities beyond what a small island community can accomplish alone. These connections help islanders better understand their options and plan for the changes ahead.
