Great Diamond Island Sea Level Rise Partnership

The Great Diamond Island Sea Level Rise Partnership (GDI Partnership) is a group of volunteers working to better understand and address the environmental challenges facing Great Diamond Island. Focused on issues such as climate change, shoreline erosion, sea level rise, and island sustainability, the GDI Partnership brings together residents, community leaders, and regional supporters from the Casco Bay area and beyond to share information, build awareness, and support informed stewardship of the island's natural and community resources.

Great Diamond Island is increasingly vulnerable to rising seas, coastal erosion, storm surge, and more frequent flooding. In response, the Partnership has worked with neighboring islands, the City of Portland, state agencies, regional organizations, and coastal experts to better understand these challenges and identify practical, long-term approaches to protecting the island's shoreline and natural resources. From shoreline monitoring and sea level rise visualization to upland management and bluff stability, the site highlights the projects, partnerships, and educational resources that are helping island communities better understand and prepare for a changing coastline.

This website highlights the GDI Partnership's projects, educational resources, and ongoing collaborations, offering opportunities to explore the issues facing Great Diamond Island and the work underway to help prepare for a changing coastline.
